Stinkin' It Up In South East Asia

Current Location: Kuantan, Malaysia 3°49′00.00″N - 103°20′00.00″E

With my left arm flung in the air, I swiped my right hand across my arm pit up and down. The merchant lady looked at me like I was performing some sort of magic trick. She turned to her partner, smiled at each other, and giggled. Great! What does a guy have to do around here to buy a stick of deodorant?

Right now, I'd do anything for a bag of Doritos Chips and a bar of Old Spice! A burger would be nice, too.

Tomorrow morning I will board a military plane headed for Banda Aceh, Indonesia to document the relief efforts in the region.

I just wanted to send a quick note to thank each and everyone of my readers for your thoughts and prayers--and words of encouragement. After a day of rest, I am feeling much better; my stomach is stable and I'm starting to eat solid food again.

Smell ya' later!

Ron
Kuantan, Malaysia

P.S: I'm not sure if I will have Internet connection in Banda Aceh, so I might be offline for a few days. I'll be in and out of the jungles and in remote locations. I'm assuming there won't be much in terms of communication.

Oh the hilarity! and the ups and downs of traveling. Can't wait to see the photos and hear more about the relief efforts in Indonesia. Your daily musing have been missed, but I think it is amazing you have the time and internet access at all while traveling. Get home safe soon!

I would have done the same thing to ask for Deodorant - Universal sign language.

The personal assistant in me wants to say “OK, just tell me the next city you’ll be in that has a hotel and I’ll have bondon send you Doritos and deodorant to it from the states ASAP. 1. Because she is used to being the personal assistants assistant. 2. Because we never like seeing anyone go without the basic necessities i.e. Doritos and deodorant!

As our mom says when we go on any trip “be cool”

I can't wait to see your published films and pictures. Keep doing what you need to do, but don't forget the bare essentials: food, rest, bath and deodorant. I can almost smell you in your blog. LOL!

Be well, Ron.

cant wait to see your pics! you make us all travel with you, Ron! there's a song by Joan Manuel Serrat about a friend that keeps sending letters and photos of his travels to an old childhood friend who remained at his home town... I think the song is called "Juan y José"

see you later!
